Murder in the Forest, Part 2

Part 1 was posted on December 1, 2005 and this story refers to that post.

The patrol leader who set up one of his men to be murdered was released from custody 2 weeks after he was detained. He has some influential relatives and, has in the past worked for the electoral commision disbursing funds, cash money. He is still a national park forest guard, but, is for the moment, on suspension, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. He is also back in Monkoto, making sure the other guards are aware of his presence.

The dead mans wife is still in Monkoto too. She doesn't want to go home to Kasai and tell the reletives her husband was shot to pieces and the man responsible is walking the streets throwing his weight around. So, she stays in Monkoto, and waits.

To say the morale of the forest guards is low would be rather an understatement.

When I wrote the first post, I wrote it as an earnest and naive man, looking for a neat ending to an imagined morality play. I know better than that, but we write want we want to come true sometimes. There aren't any neat endings and there are damn few happy ones. What there are, are continueing, dying a day at a time, tragedies.
