Time for a good flying story....
flying stories fall mostly into three categories, either i did something stupid, the other guy did something stupid, or boring.
i don't want to tell stories in public about the stupid things other guys did because that wouldn't be right. i would essentially be using them to puff myself up. you ever talk to me face to face though i'll tell you plenty of those.
i can't tell any i was a bonehead stories because i have never ever done anything boneheaded, no sir not one single time, not ever.
the stories of memorable flights are boring to the general public because they mostly mean something to me or other aviation types or will come across as bragging.
there is one story though about us maybe doing a flight of the phoenix. do you want to hear that one?
Hmmm ... I seem to remember hearing stories about a young pilot working at a glider facility in CA. who made some iffy take offs and landings in cross winds that were deemed to be unsafe by more experienced allbeit less skilled pilots who wittnessed said events.
those guys were plenty skilled. but they were wise and used their wisdom to avoid having to use their skill (that is an old flying aphorism). that young guy you spoke of was plenty skilled and he actually learned from that episode that wisdom is better.
