Continuity of Command

When I was here in the past each of the component parts of the unit we are part of operated on its own. This platform flew off to do its thing and that platform flew off to do some other thing. We never knew what the other guy was doing and we never, or so it seemed, coordinated our activities.

That has changed this time around. Our parent unit watches what each part does and makes plans so that when possible, each part can support the efforts of the others. They also make sure that there is much closer cooperation with the various units we fly over. That didn't happen so much in the past. Lip service was given to it but this time we really know what they want from us and they really know what we can do for them.

This has made for much more effective use of the tools and people available. And the people available are much happier when they are being used to better purpose. I are one so I know.

I don't know exactly what has changed. Maybe some higher authority has given up some control. Maybe because there is less going on there is more time for thoughtful employment of resources.

The thing that seems most plausible to me is something I was told. This is the second time the unit commander has had charge of this particular unit. Perhaps the first time around, the boss has his hands full just figuring what is what and where the office is. The second time around, all that is quotidian is known and there is more time available to attend to war type things. That sounds as if it could be. It fits with what the Marines found. They would rotate their units in for only 7 months but when the unit returned they always tried to send them back to the place they were before. That made for less strain on the men but allowed them to keep their base of knowledge. (I learned that from reading The Strongest Tribe.)

The other thing I heard was that the unit had an extra Major they didn't know what to do with so they let him direct activities. Either way, things are good.
