Hm, seems weird to me for some reason that you all would carry an AR while flying. Selective fire, if you don't mind my asking? (Gun nut thing...part of the reason SF is on the list.)

ok...so they give you a pea shooter and a water pistol. how about a picture of your plane?
Pea Shooter and Water Pistol!!! Why, why,...why I suppose in context that is just what they are.
This comment is for mike - the first entry from January 22. Wouldn't you want a weapon or two if you were flying over this particular war torn country in question? Hmm, let's see - you may not need it while you are flying or landing at a base. However, should you need to land outside of the base, you and your crew may want to have firearms considering there will be a lot of people on the ground when you land that may have guns and just maybe some of them may not like you very much. Think about it.
