Fighting to come
The International Crisis Group (I have a link posted) just issued a report about the upcoming elections here in the Congo.
The unstated conclusion of the report is that unless a bunch of things happen, that aren't likely to happen (Eufor gets double the number of combat troops they have now, they stay longer than planned, they and the UN forces get clear cut orders to use force), in the next few weeks, there will be fighting. And the fighting, maybe major fighting, is most likely to occur in Kinshasa. The neighborhood where it is most likely to occur is Gombe, where it took place a few weeks ago. Hey, wait a second, Gombe is where I live!
Both sides have stated or made clear they won't lose. Both sides have been arming and both sides have been courting foreign help. One side had 46 tanks shipped in through Matadi a short while back. I wonder what kind they were?
The vote is on Oct. 29. The results will be announced in Nov. and the new pres. sworn in sometime in Jan. 2007.

Based upon your comments, you should be seeing what type of tanks they were in just a few weeks.
let's see, a T-54 has a gap between the 1st and the 2nd roadwheel and a T-55 has a gap between the 2nd last and the last road wheel; or is it the other way around?
Hopefully you wont have the opportunity for an up-close inspection...
